Our practice includes evaluating bankruptcy eligibility, protecting exempt assets, preparing bankruptcy petitions, and representing debtors throughout the bankruptcy process in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts.

Nicholas S. Ratush
Nicholas S. Ratush is an attorney with more than 20 years of legal experience, concentrating his practice in estate planning, probate and estate administration, trusts, bankruptcy, and civil litigation. Based in Holyoke, Massachusetts, he represents individuals and families throughout Western Massachusetts and is also admitted to practice in New York and Connecticut.
Nicholas approaches every legal matter with the understanding that effective representation begins with careful preparation and attention to detail. Whether developing an estate plan, administering a complex estate, helping a client navigate financial difficulties, or resolving a legal dispute, he believes that understanding the full picture is essential to developing practical, effective solutions.
Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Nicholas earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Information Systems from Pace University and his Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School in 2005. He began practicing law in New York in 2006, was admitted in Massachusetts in 2019, and subsequently expanded his practice to Connecticut. He also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from New York Law School, with a concentration in Tax Law and Estate Planning.
Drawing on his background in both transactional matters and litigation, Nicholas brings a broader perspective to estate planning and probate representation. He understands not only how legal documents are intended to operate, but also how disputes can arise when circumstances change or expectations are not clearly addressed. That experience informs his emphasis on careful drafting, anticipating potential complications, and helping clients avoid unnecessary litigation.
Although an experienced litigator, Nicholas recognizes that the best outcome often comes from resolving disagreements without prolonged court proceedings. He combines thorough preparation with a practical, measured approach, advocating firmly for his clients while remaining focused on efficient and sensible resolutions.
